On September 14, the election of the president of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party was held in Tokyo.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga won and was elected as the new president of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Yoshihide Suga received 89 local votes and 288 member votes, a total of 377 votes.

The other two candidates, Fumio Kishida, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's political affairs investigation, and Shipo Shige, the former secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, received 89 and 68 votes respectively.

Yoshihide Suga has previously stated on multiple occasions that he will continue the various measures of the Abe administration and move forward.

Suga Yoshihide was born in 1948 and is 71 years old. He was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 1996 and was the Minister of General Affairs of Japan in 2006.

He was appointed Chief Cabinet Secretary in 2012 and has been re-elected to the present. He has served more than 2,800 days and is the longest Chief Cabinet Secretary in Japanese history.

On August 28, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s residence and announced his resignation as prime minister due to health problems.

On September 1, the Liberal Democratic Party held a general affairs meeting to determine the election method for the new president, that is, the presidential election will be conducted by voting by Liberal Democratic Party members of Congress and representatives of the local branch association.

According to this plan, each of the 47 prefectural and local branch associations in Japan has 3 votes for a total of 141 votes, plus 394 votes for members of the Diet, for a total of 535 votes.

Since the Liberal Democratic Party is currently the largest party in the Japanese parliament, according to practice, the new president of the Liberal Democratic Party will become the next prime minister of Japan.

The provisional parliament is scheduled to be held on the 16th to hold the election of a new prime minister by name.
