The barriers of the relay car park at the terminus of line B in Ramonville.

  • Since the start of the school year, the metro parks have become classic car parks where you can park without taking public transport, for a fee.

  • This allows Tisséo to make profitable off-peak hours and to drive out suction cups.

  • For the classic user, nothing changes… except in special cases.

Tuesday morning in the park-and-ride (P + R in the jargon) of the metro terminus in Ramonville.

A man struggles in front of the brand new automatic cash register, he tries unsuccessfully to "scan" an old shriveled "10 trips" ticket.

This Audois only occasionally comes to Toulouse.

He doesn't have a Pastel card.

And faced with the new access system put in place in the middle of summer, he admits to being “a little lost”.

He had to take a parking ticket at the barrier, like in a conventional parking lot.

But if he honors his meeting in Toulouse by metro and slips his validated ticket at the terminal on exiting, he will not pay for his parking.

For “normal” users who use park-and-ride facilities for what they were designed for, the new system therefore changes nothing, except that it adds a few operations.

There are now cash desks in the relay car parks of the Toulouse metro.

On the other hand, it is the end of “sucker cars”, for example those of students from other parts of the region who parked all week for the price of a metro ticket.

"And I would remind you that the Arènes car park was used as free parking at the airport since people left their cars there for vacation before taking the tram", argues Jean-Michel Lattes, president of Tisséo.

“I have no regrets,” he adds, “we have gained 2,000 places and found that the availability is now exponential.

"

A more difficult system to chip away at

And now, it's impossible to chomp by going to stamp a ticket without going.

We tested it, the system detects that there was no return trip within 24 hours and applies a "full pot" rate: 2 euros per hour or 25 euros per day and 150 euros per week, in the range of those charged by downtown dealers.

And this is the other big change: the Tisséo * parks have been transformed into classic car parks.

You can park there without taking public transport as long as you pay.

“As there are more free places, that does not pose a problem, underlines Jean-Michel Lattes.

And I also assume the price because we are not trying to collect customers but to provide a facility ”.

And also to rationalize the operation of these car parks which are certainly too full during the day but sometimes desperately empty at night or on weekends.

Hence the “good plan” formula: a subscription at 40 euros per month, without obligation, which allows parking at night (from 6 pm to 8 am) and on weekends.

No transparency on the price to pay if you miss the last metro

It is a fold to take, but the new system has not failed since the start of the school year to raise questions from twittos users who are looking for flaws.

A traveler would like to be able to do her shopping in the Balma terminus shopping center after her “metro work” round trip and without this interlude turning into paid parking.

A night owl, who plans to be distracted, asks what the fare is when you miss the last metro.

Answer: if he wants to get back to his car right away without having composted, he pays by the hour for the time spent.

"Or it recomposes within 24 hours on the network and it benefits from free access like all users", explains Thierry Wischnewski, general manager of Tisséo Voyageurs.
