Ali Riza Polat, the main defendant present at the trial of the 2015 attacks, denied having had any links with the Chérif brothers and Saïd Kouachi.

This close friend of Amédy Coulibaly also rejects the fact of having played a central role in the preparations for the Hyper Cacher and Montrouge attacks.

For a week, he had promised to "throw everything away".

Ali Riza Polat, the main accused present at the trial of the 2015 attacks, gave muddled explanations on Tuesday, attributing his presence on the dock to the testimony of an "informer" involved in a homicide case.

"I am in an assize court for complicity for two motherfuckers that I do not even know", launched in front of the special court of assizes of Paris Ali Riza Polat, in reference to the brothers Chérif and Saïd Kouachi, authors of the attack on

Charlie Hebdo

.

"I did not look for weapons to kill people (…) I was looking for weapons for my robberies and they come to get me for this case", continued the accused, during a monologue punctuated by insults and bloodshot.

"Confessions" on 22 pages

Close to the Hyper Cacher killer Amédy Coulibaly, Ali Riza Polat is the only one of the eleven defendants present at the trial of the January 2015 attacks to answer for "complicity" in terrorist crimes, punishable by life imprisonment.

Investigators suspect him of having served as Amédy Coulibaly's "right-hand man" and of having played a central role in the preparations for the Hyper Cacher and Montrouge attacks, but also that of

Charlie Hebdo

.

A questioning that Polat again contested on Tuesday: "Three to four months ago, I came across a document, which made me understand a lot of things," he said, showing a report hearing from the investigation file.

During this hearing, a witness allegedly mentioned under X his involvement in the preparation of the attacks.

A testimony contested by Polat, who attributes it to an "indicator" of the police, involved in the murder of a "little one from the city".

"These people, they murdered someone with a bullet in the head," Polat was carried away, specifying that he "ditched everything" four months ago at the "Paris prosecutor's office".

"I made 22 pages of confession!", He added.

"Two different cases"

Present at the bar, a former official of the Anti-Terrorist Sub-Directorate (Sdat) assured that Ali Riza Polat had been identified thanks to elements provided by one of his co-accused, and not on the basis of this anonymous testimony, much later.

The attorney general for his part admitted the existence of an investigation, but dismissed any link with the Charlie trial.

"These are two different cases which in my opinion do not have much to do", even if "the investigations which are in progress will enlighten us", he concluded.
