Scheduled for January 2021 and already canceled.

There will be no tamer, acrobats or clowns: the Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival has been canceled and its 45th edition postponed to 2022 due to the health situation, the princely government said.

This is the third time since its inception in 1974 that this festival has not gone as planned, as it did after the accidental death of Princess Grace in 1982 and during the Gulf War in 1991.

“We had no other choice,” explains festival director Urs Pilz.

It's not just a circus show, but at least 20 nations, over 200 artists, large delegations.

We couldn't get involved in the organization in this uncertain situation with so many transportation problems.

"

"We will appreciate the 45th festival even more"

“It was the prudent and the most logical not to cancel at the last moment.

We will appreciate even more the 45th festival, because it will be made wait a year ”, declared the princess Stéphanie, president of the demonstration.

Besides the transport puzzle, there was also an uncertainty about the participation of the public under the marquee, around 3,000 spectators that the presence of exotic animals does not put off, even if the 44th edition did not have sea lions, elephants or giraffes, just a Russian number of white tigers and a century-old Swiss cavalry.

For the Principality of Monaco, the direct benefits are around five million euros in hotel costs, sound or light technicians, and security.
