This year, the Northern Hemisphere had the hottest summer ever, and it turned out to be the third hottest summer on Earth.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that the northern hemisphere surface and sea surface temperatures from June to August were 1.17 degrees higher than the 20th-century average, the highest in 141 years since 1880.

It broke the records of last year and 2016, which were previously tied for first place.

Last year and 2016, Northern Hemisphere surface and sea surface temperatures were 1.13 degrees above average.

Globally, this summer was the third hottest ever.

In June-August, the world's surface and sea surface temperatures were 0.92 degrees higher than the average, ranking third after 2016 and 2019 when the averages exceeded 0.95 and 0.93 degrees respectively.
