Floods in the Sahel: emergency aid is deployed for affected Burkinabè

Almost 71,000 Burkinabè have been affected by the floods according to official figures.

These floods left 13 dead and 50 injured.

Hundreds of families are now homeless.

Urgent needs are estimated at more than 9 billion CFA francs.

Heavy rains and winds destroyed or damaged more than 5,000 homes.

According to official figures nearly 71,000 people have been affected by the floods in Burkina Faso.

Hundreds of people are now homeless.

They have been temporarily relocated to schools and reception centers.

Around 1,700 shelters have been destroyed at various reception sites for internally displaced people.

Food assistance is being put in place

According to the permanent secretariat of the national emergency relief council, more than 250 tons of food and several animals were also washed away.

Those affected need food assistance.

11,000 people have already received aid for two months.

This aid is composed in particular of rice, millet, corn and beans.

But above all, it will be necessary to rebuild homes, buy hygiene kits, and monitor the health of the victims.

According to the estimates of the emergency response plan, the needs are estimated at more than 9 billion CFA francs.

The government declared a state of natural disaster and released 5 billion CFA francs.
