Colombian Egan Bernal, winner of the Tour de France 2019 but in great difficulty in the current edition, has not been selected for the Cycling World Championship which will take place in Imola, Italy, from September 24 to 27.
The leader of the Ineos team is not on the list released on Tuesday by the Colombian Cycling Federation, which did not provide an explanation for its decision.
Main favorite of the Tour with the current yellow jersey Primoz Roglic, Bernal, 23, was on Tuesday in sixteenth position, more than 19 minutes behind the leader.
Suffering from the back before the start of the race, he had lost all chance on Sunday when he collapsed on the final climb to the Grand Colombier.
In Italy, the South American team will count in particular on Rigoberto Uran and Miguel Angel Lopez, third and fourth in the general classification of the Tour five days from the finish, and on Nairo Quintana (10th).
