It was when a police patrol was to check a car just before 24 o'clock in central Norrköping that the driver instead withdrew from the police.
The patrol followed and it went quickly through the city.
The driver is suspected of a number of traffic offenses because he drove towards a red light and on pedestrian and bicycle paths.
The hunt ended in the district Klockaretorpet in western Norrköping.
The driver left the car while it was still rolling and it then collided with the police car.
The man also resisted when the police confronted him.
- The police car must have been damaged in the side, says police spokesman Dennis Johansson Strömberg.
The 20-year-old is suspected of aggravated illegal driving, drug driving, drug offenses, negligence in traffic, causing a traffic accident and violent resistance.
