  China News Service, September 14 According to the website of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in China, the U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad will step down from his post of U.S. Special Envoy in early October and leave Beijing.

  A statement posted on the website stated that Branstad confirmed the decision by telephone with US President Trump last week.

After leaving Beijing, Branstad will return to Iowa, USA.

  On December 7, 2016, Branstad announced that he had accepted President Trump's nomination as the US ambassador to China.

He was confirmed by the Senate on May 22, 2017, and was sworn in on May 24, 2017.
