At least 33 people are reported to have lost their lives in the ongoing fires along the west coast of the United States.

Oregon, California and Washington are still ravaged by fire.

Stefan Åsberg, SVT's US correspondent on site in California, states that the weather has been favorable for a few days now that it has not blown that much.

- The cover of smoke also makes the humidity high, which facilitates firefighting, says Åsberg in SVT's Morgonstudion.

Trump is visiting California

On Monday, President Trump will meet with rescue service leaders in California.

According to Åsberg, visits are mainly because the president wants to show that he cares.

- There are an enormous number of Americans who are affected by the fires in one way or another, says Åsberg.

During a prominent Sunday, the president indicated that the fires were caused by poorly managed forest management.

"Remember that - it's about forestry," Trump said.

Åsberg: Not surprising

Åsberg thinks that the president chose to focus on forest management instead of the climate is not particularly surprised.

Most people agree that humans caused the fires in some way - but in terms of the impact of the climate, opinions differ.

- Donald Trump has not pushed the climate issue at all.

And it is an issue that has not been particularly high on the agenda in recent months either, but if the fires continue to plague even in the final sprint of the presidential election movement, it will affect it, says Åsberg.
