Similar to the statements of the Palestinian Intifada leadership at the end of the eighties, the so-called "Statement No. 1 of the Unified National Command of Popular Resistance" was officially released on Sunday, with the phrase "It is a revolution until victory", the most famous saying in the Palestinian resistance publications for decades.

The statement, which reached the media on Sunday night, came as the first output of the meeting of secretaries general of the Palestinian factions, which was organized on September 3 between Ramallah and Beirut, and the statement of the unified leadership's declaration was described as a step to respond to the "deal of the century" and "Arab declarations of normalization with Israel." ".

The statement announced the "launch of a popular militant march" whose activities are inspired by the Palestinian uprisings since the 1920s and under the banner of the Palestinian flag only, in a return to the "Al-Buraq Revolution" against the British mandate in 1929.

The statement called on the Arab peoples and free people of the world to rally with Palestine against the Israeli occupation and the "deal of the century", and "to drop the agreements of shame and betrayal that were concluded by the rulers of the Emirates and Bahrain."

The new leadership committed itself to managing the popular resistance in the same manner in all the Palestinian territories, especially Jerusalem, and to devise mechanisms to defend the Palestinians against "settler terror and the occupation army" and "respond with the principle of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."

The statement called for Tuesday to be considered a day of popular rejection in Palestine and the diaspora in which Palestinian flags are raised to denounce the raising of the occupation’s flag "on the mast of humiliation in Abu Dhabi and Manama," and to commemorate the martyrs of the Sabra and Shatila massacres on Thursday, September 17th.

Next Friday he declared a day of mourning to denounce the "America-Israel-UAE-Bahrain" agreement, interspersed with popular events at the points of contact with the occupation in the West Bank.

Field Administration

Member of the Central Committee of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) Sabri Saydam said that the unified leadership relied in its formation on the final statement of the meeting with the General Secretaries, who assigned it to manage the resistance issue on the ground.

According to Sidam, in an interview with Al-Jazeera Net, this leadership "will consist of a group of national figures who will bear the responsibility of managing field resistance work, and will respond to all Israeli threats and positions whenever and wherever it deems appropriate."

Saidam said that the task of this leadership, whose members were not named, is to organize the ranks and gather all Palestinians. "And if not all the factions are represented in it, agreement will be made on this leadership, and it will be announced at the appropriate time."

According to the leader of the Fatah movement, the first statement will be followed by more statements to manage the popular movement in the face of the "deal of the century" and plans for annexation and Arab normalization.

"The new leadership will be supported by a unified opinion, and it will represent the greatest common denominator in popular and field work among all Palestinian factions," he said.

While Saidam did not clarify the factions that are not affiliated with the new leadership, the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Ramallah, Hassan Youssef, confirmed to Al-Jazeera Net that there is a representation of Hamas in it, but he said that this "will be the concern of the general secretaries abroad."

In the same context, Hussam Badran, a member of the political bureau of Hamas, welcomed the formation of the unified leadership and the issuance of its first statement, and said that it is a practical step to transform the national consensus into measures on the ground.

Badran said in a press statement that "the rush of a number of Arab countries to normalize their relations with the occupying power has pushed the file of forming a unified national leadership to the top of the Palestinian agenda," stressing the need for all Palestinians to cooperate to harden their internal front and rise above differences to save their cause.

Badran expressed his movement’s confidence in what he described as "the ability of the Palestinian street to take initiative and take steps that turn the tables in the face of projects and ideas aimed at liquidating the Palestinian issue."

Chances of success

In turn, a member of the PLO Executive Committee and Secretary-General of the Palestinian People's Party, Bassam al-Salihi, confirmed the representation of all the forces that participated in the last meeting of the general secretaries of the factions, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, as well as the PLO forces.

On the chances of success of this joint leadership before ending the Palestinian division, especially between Fatah and Hamas movements, Al-Salhi told Al-Jazeera Net that there is no way other than unified joint action, and that "any party that obstructs this intentionally or unintentionally does not care about the interests of the Palestinian people."

He said that the Palestinians have a long history in the popular struggle, and all successful experiences will be brought up to build and expand popular committees and combative methods throughout the Palestinian territories.

While the unified leadership statement spoke of reciprocating the Israeli aggressions, Al-Salhi said that the last meeting of the Secretaries General agreed to support popular resistance in all its forms within the framework of the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves.

Alliances at the expense of the case, and

in a remote interview with the media on Sunday, Saeb Erekat, a member of the Executive Committees of the PLO and the Central Fatah Organization, said that "tremendous efforts" were made by the factions after the meeting of the General Secretaries, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, in order to arrive at the first statement to announce the birth of the leadership Palestinian unit.

Erekat said that the efforts aimed to reach a formula of political partnership, end the division, and prepare for the general Palestinian elections with a mandate from President Mahmoud Abbas to confront "peace for protection alliances" at the expense of the Palestinian cause, referring to the normalization agreements with Israel.

The work of the committees established as a result of the meeting of the general secretaries of the factions will continue for a further 4 weeks, according to their schedule.

Erekat said that the Palestinians are moving towards a "radical change in the full sense of the word" in terms of reconciliation, the formation of the unified national leadership of resistance, political partnership, and elections.
