They debated a report on the risks to the independence of the judiciary and respect for fundamental rights which will be put to a vote on Thursday, September 17.

Never has a state violated European law in this way

", underlines the rapporteur of the text, Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar, who describes "

overwhelming evidence

" of violations of the rule of law in Poland.

The independence of the judiciary and the media are undermined.

And the situation has only deteriorated for three years, since the launch of the article 7 procedure against Warsaw, yet supposed to push the Polish authorities to get back on track.

“

Wrong!

», Replies Polish MP Patryk Jaki, member of the ruling coalition.

“

You know that we have appointed the judicial council by Parliament, as in Spain.

In Spain, you say "everything is good", but in Poland you tell us

: "you are violating the rule of law".

Is that equal treatment

 ”.

MEPs are concerned about the upsurge in violence against LGBT + people, such as Tilly Metz, Luxembourg environmentalist.

“

In December 2019, I spoke proudly about my same-sex marriage, full of hope for an inclusive Europe.

Today, I don't know if I can still set foot in Poland.

Stop the hatred

 !

"

For MEPs, the granting of European funds must be conditional on respect for the rule of law in order to put pressure on Warsaw.
