September 14, 2020 After about six months - the lessons have not been in attendance since March 5 throughout Italy, two weeks earlier in some northern regions - the bell rings again in Italian schools: over 5.6 million pupils they will resume classes today in class.

Overall, 8.3 million female students and students are returning to the schools this year: 7,507,484 in state institutions, to which are added the approximately 860,000 peers. 



 Those from state schools will be distributed in 369,048 classes.

Of these, 876,232 are enrolled in the kindergarten, 2,384,026 in the primary, 1,612,116 in the lower secondary school, 2,635,110 in the upper secondary school.

There is a slight decline in pupils: last year they were 7,599,259.

Also in the state school, female students and students with disabilities increase from 259,757 a year ago to 268,671 this year.

Of these, 19,907 will attend Kindergarten, 100,434 Primary, 70,431 Lower Secondary, 77,899 Lower Secondary.

In the state secondary schools 1,327,443 girls and boys will attend a high school, 830,860 a technical institute, 476,807 a professional institute.




The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will inaugurate the school year at the 'Guido Negri' primary school in Vo '(Padua) this afternoon, starting at 16.30.

The ceremony will be attended by the President of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, the classroom secretary Francesco Scoma - representing the Speaker of the Chamber Roberto Fico -, the Minister for Relations with the Parliament Federico D'Incà and the Deputy Minister of Education Anna Ascani .

To animate the ceremony will be the pupils of the institutes that have been selected in the annual competition of the Ministry of Education for having created the best educational courses on the themes of education, legality, integration and the fight against bullying .
