At the beginning of the corona pandemic, SVT reported high student absenteeism at certain primary schools in Södertälje.

Despite compulsory schooling, absenteeism was up to 60 percent in some schools in the municipality.

One reason was, among other things, that parents were worried that their children would become ill.

- My wife belongs to a risk group so we made the decision to keep our daughter at home, says Jan Wiman.

Now during the first weeks of the autumn term, the absenteeism figures at the municipality's primary schools are instead down to around 10 percent, which is the same level as last autumn.

The daughter is back at school.

And although it has gone well to study at home in the spring, she has missed her friends.

- She is happy to be back, not being able to meet her friends for such a long time has been the hardest thing, says Jan Wiman.
