Protests against Alexander Lukashenko's regime in Belarus have been going on for weeks.

On Sunday, protesters tried to gather to march on the exclusive residential area of Drozdy, where Lukashenko, ministers and senior officials live.

Last Sunday, many protesters jumped into Lake Komsomolskoe, which is located in the area, to escape the riot police and their batons.

When the sea rescue went out to rescue the protesters, the police also arrested them and eight sea rescuers had to spend three days in the infamous Okrestino prison.

The lifeguards are worried

SVT's correspondent Elin Jönsson has met some of the lifeguards who say that today they are forced to cooperate with the police and hand over those they may rescue the water directly to the prisoner transports that will wait next to the shore.

-I feel very worried now, the only thing I think about is coming home to my family tonight.

I can not help but do my job, to save people who are drowning, says Ingvar, a doctor at the sea rescue.

Ingvar took care of many injured last Sunday and witnessed the violence from the police.

Eight of his colleagues were arrested.

He himself escaped with a warning from the police.

While we are talking, two colleagues who were imprisoned for three days come to us.

The police arrest and drag people away

-I'm terrified of the situation.

We only do our job, we can not sort people into "good" and "bad" when they are in the water.

But that is what the police demand.

But I have no regrets and will do the same today - save lives, says an older lifeguard.

We leave the lifeguards to head towards the demonstrations.

Later in the afternoon, Ingvar calls and tells that the lifeguards were sent to the beach in the residential area Drozdy, where the protesters gathered.

Over the phone, he tells how he sees the police arresting small groups of people and dragging them away.
