September 13, 2020 "I wanted to teach her a lesson, not kill her. But she was infected". According to reports, Michele Antonio Gaglione, arrested for the death of his twenty-year-old sister Maria Paola in Naples, told the carabinieri. Initially he was responsible for personal injury, death as a result of another crime and private violence, but his position worsened and the 30-year-old ended up in jail for manslaughter and private violence aggravated by homophobia.

The young man chased his sister and his partner for several minutes, trying with his kicks to make them fall from the racing scooter, then in a curve, the vehicle with the two girls on board, hit by the fury of the young man, lost grip and ended up outside. Street; Maria Paola ended up on an irrigation hose, which cut her throat, her friend, who for some time has been called Ciro, was luckier because she ended up on the pavement without hitting any obstacles , and is now hospitalized.

According to what was reconstructed by the investigators, these are the last moments in the life of the 20-year-old, who died in the night between Friday and Saturday; the brother, unemployed, resident in the Parco Verde di Caivano (Naples), who after having rammed the girls and led them out of the way, also slammed on Ciro beating her, while his sister was now dead, was arrested shortly after.

Don Patriciello: "Cause it is the absence of culture"

"The story of Maria Paola is very sad, I didn't sleep there. I baptized her and her brother Michele Antonio, the latter I also married a few years ago. I don't think she really wanted killing his sister, perhaps he wanted to teach her a lesson, the investigations will establish this; he certainly wasn't culturally prepared to live his sister's relationship with another woman ".

Don Maurizio Patriciello, parish priest at the Parco Verde in Caivano (Naples), knew both the Gaglione family and that of Maria Paola's companion, Cira, who however chose to be called Ciro; both families reside in the Parco Verde di Caivano, one of the most degraded residential complexes in the Neapolitan hinterland, which became known a few years ago for the events of pedophilia that involved the little Fortuna Loffredo, so much so that it earned the nickname "Parco degli Orrori" .

Maria Paola, 20, died in Acerra while on a scooter after being rammed by her brother's motorcycle, who did not accept the girl's homosexual relationship; with Maria Paola there was the 22-year-old companion, who was injured. "I did not know about the relationship between the two girls - continues Don Patriciello - but I knew of Ciro's choice, which I respect; it will not have been easy for them. Even today these people find it hard to be accepted".

The priest fears that the situation could degenerate, especially on social media, where the boy's mother wrote a post defending her son. "On social media I have read bad comments, attacks between families, but it is necessary to stay calm and wait for the investigations to take their course". In the next few days, Don Maurizio will officiate the girl's funeral.

Gay Center: "We must change the homophobia bill"

"The death of Maria Paola Gaglione, 18 years old from Caivano del Parco Verde, Naples, is the story of a girl not accepted by the family and mistreated for this, she and her partner accused of having" infected her with homosexuality ". Terrible story, which ended on Friday with the ramming of the scooter and the attack on his partner by Paola's brother, while they were fleeing for freedom. The Brother is now under arrest, as learned from the press". So Fabrizio Marrazzo, spokesperson of the Gay Center.

"What happened demonstrates how difficult the contexts are that we have been reporting for some time with our toll-free Gay Help Line 800 713 713 - declares Marrazzo, Gay Help Line Manager - for this we need a serious law against homotransphobia, which prevents situations of these type and that undoubtedly condemns the statements that see homosexuality as a disease or something inferior, while the amendment "Salva Opinions Omofobe", wanted by Costa (ex FI) and approved by the majority, would make these expressions lawful. prejudices for which Paola was killed. This amendment must be changed and the support for the protection centers, requested by us and provided for by the homotransphobia law, which could guarantee protection and freedom to Paola and her partner, must be made certain. , which the budget committee now seems to want to further limit them. "

"We ask for justice for Paola, the culprit is not only her brother, but also the other family members who mistreated her and allowed what happened without protecting her and without reporting", concludes Marrazzo.

Mom companion victim: "It's a murder"

On Facebook, immediately after the tragedy in Caivano, Ciro's mother, who was having an affair with Maria Paola, shouted all her pain, openly accusing Michele Antonio "of having deliberately committed a murder because she couldn't bear that her sister was dating a trans man. Children accept each other as they come. Paola rests in peace ".
