Yesterday, Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said that the Kingdom is facing a "new wave" and a "worrying rise" in the new Corona virus infections, calling on his country's citizens to "adhere to preventive measures so that a painful setback does not occur."

Last Friday, Jordan recorded a record daily death toll of 206, after it was recording very few numbers only one month ago, so that one injury was recorded on the sixth of August.

"Jordan is not the only country facing this new wave of (Corona) injuries," Al-Razzaz said in a speech broadcast on Jordanian television, "The whole world is engaged today in a heated debate about which means is the most effective in facing Corona: closure or coexistence and adaptation?"

He added, "Many countries in the world and the region stand today in front of a defining moment ... Do they continue to adapt to the epidemic or go back to imposing closures?"

“Today we are witnessing an alarming increase in the number of injuries,” Al-Razzaz said.

Jordan, like other countries, has two paths ahead: adaptation to the epidemic, or a return to closures and embargoes.

He pointed out that «the Ministry of Health and its cadres and epidemiologists are closely monitoring the acceleration in the number of infections and the spread of (Corona) infection foci».

"Continuing with the current pace of doubling the number of infections on a daily basis and successively will move us in a flash, from the level of spread in isolated controlled foci, to the level of community infection, which is a difficult-to-control degree of spread," he stressed.

Al-Razzaz called on the citizens of his country to "sincerely adhere to preventive measures," noting that "failure of only 5% of society is sufficient to cause a painful setback."

He said, "Jordan, in principle and steadfastly, rejects the idea of herd immunity. Herd immunity means survival of the strongest."

He concluded that "the current stage in facing the epidemic is decisive, and there is no room for complacency or recklessness."

The increase in injuries comes two weeks after the opening of schools in Jordan, the return of about one and a half million students to school, and about five days after the return of regular international flights.

As of yesterday, the Kingdom recorded 3062 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 22 deaths, according to the official figures of the Ministry of Health.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced in a statement the day before yesterday, that five injuries were recorded among the Syrian refugees in the Zaatari and Azraq camps.

The Syrian refugee camp, Zaatari, contains about 80,000 refugees, while the Azraq camp includes about 41,000.
