Major Abdullah Nasser Al Mazrouei, Head of the Strategy and Institutional Development Department in the Central Operations Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, said, “Statistics and reports indicate an increase in child sitting violations in the front seats over the past three years, which has called for tougher punishment for this violation - within Law No. 5 For the year 2020 regarding the seizure of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi - which pose a threat to children's lives, and make them vulnerable to harm, injury and death in traffic accidents.

Al-Mazrouei explained that the penalties were wrongly included in the vehicle seizure law, which came after conducting several research and studies, and based on statistical figures for traffic violations that have been modified in the law, as it is one of the most serious violations that was a major cause of the increase in the number of traffic accidents that resulted in injuries and deaths The total number of accidents that occurred due to repeated violations that were amended in Law No. (5) of 2020, 894 traffic accidents, and led to the death of 66 people, last year, of which 64 were severe accidents, 716 medium and 643 minor ones.

He expected the application of the new law to deter reckless drivers and reduce dangerous road traffic violations.

10 cases

The new vehicle seizure law has defined 10 cases for which fees are charged to unblock the vehicle, which are: hitting a police patrol, or causing damage to it, participating in road races without a permit, and if the number plates are artificial, imitation or blurred, bypassing the red signal, and driving the vehicle in a manner Endangering the driver's life or the life, safety or security of others, causing an accident due to sudden speeding or swerving, not leaving a sufficient safety distance, or not giving priority to pedestrians, allowing a child under 10 years old to sit in the front seat of the vehicle, and exceeding the limit The speed limit set is more than 60 km / h, changes to the vehicle's engine or base (chassis) without a license, and finally, the driver is required to pay a fine of 100 dirhams for every other violation decided to seize the vehicle.
