According to AFP report, Abdullah, Chairman of the High Commission for National Reconciliation in Afghanistan, said, "We must stop violence and reach a ceasefire agreement as soon as possible. We hope to achieve a humanitarian ceasefire."
The Associated Press stated that this was the first negotiation between the Afghan government and the Taliban since the outbreak of the war in Afghanistan in 2001.
According to the agreement reached between the US government and the Taliban at the end of February, the Afghan government should release 5,000 Taliban detainees, and the Taliban promised to release 1,000 detained government personnel.
However, the process of exchanging detainees between the two parties has been interrupted many times.
Due to differences between the Afghan government and the Taliban on the mutual release of detainees, the dialogue that should have started in March has been put on hold.
According to previous reports, in view of the huge differences between the positions of the Afghan government and the Taliban, the negotiations will not be smooth sailing and the negotiations are expected to take a long time.
