America expels 8,800 immigrant children due to Corona

The administration of US President Donald Trump expelled about 8,800 immigrant children who were not with any of their relatives after they were seized at the US-Mexico border since March 20, under rules aimed at curbing the spread of the new Corona virus in the United States, according to documents provided by the Ministry of Justice to the court on Friday.

The administration has held back the numbers since June, when it said that nearly 2,000 children had been expelled.

Immigration advocates said many others were likely to obey the rules, but the scope of the expulsions was not clear until Friday.

The administration implemented new border laws on March 21 that canceled decades-long procedures under laws aimed at protecting children from human trafficking and giving them an opportunity to apply for asylum in America to an immigration court in the United States.

The administration said that these emergency rules aim to avoid the spread of the Corona virus inside the immigrant housing facilities and among the residents of the United States.

The government included these figures in a file that the Justice Department submitted to the Ninth Circuit of the US Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco, to challenge an order issued on September 4 to stop detaining children in hotels before their expulsion.
