The Catholic Church and the National Commission for Human Rights are alarmed by the resurgence of the practice of excision in Chad.
The authorities seem to be losing interest in the subject as female genital mutilation is committed in several provinces of the country.
This practice of reducing the clitoris of young girls is prohibited by law, but persists, despite community awareness.

The total or partial ablation of the clitoris is a practice condemned by the Chadian penal code to terms of imprisonment.
However, the authorities preferred pedagogy to punishment.
But if this process worked for a while, it is no longer the case today.
The excisors and their accomplices now challenge the authorities.
“
There we are tired!
We are tired of raising awareness.
As they say "we don't have a prison".
They can therefore do whatever they want,
”Fr. Allahissem Prosper, very involved in raising awareness against female genital mutilation, was carried away.
.
In July and August alone, in Mandoul province alone, in southern Chad, hundreds of girls and women were cut without the authorities reacting, forcing the National Human Rights Commission to give of voice.
“
You know this is a very, very serious human rights violation because it is well known people who are doing this.
But unfortunately they are not worried.
We will be obliged to take steps to be able to stop this
”, underlined Djidda Oumar, president of the National Commission of Human Rights.
In addition, the National Human Rights Commission indicates that it has opened an investigation to shed light on the resurgence of this phenomenon, which demonstrates a relaxation of public powers.
