Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the top scorer for Liverpool, assumed the championship role and scored three goals (hat-trick) to lead his team to a difficult 4-3 victory over Leeds United on Saturday at the start of his campaign to defend the English Premier League title.

The first round matches that were held today also saw Arsenal beat Fulham 3-0, and Crystal Palace over Southampton with a clean goal.

The "Reds" quadruple was scored by Salah (4 from a penalty kick, 33 and 88 from a penalty kick) and Virgil Van Dyck (20), while Leeds' goals were scored by Jack Harrison (12), Patrick Bamford (30) and Matthews Klitch (66).

Liverpool won its first three points in the league this season, as it seeks to defend the title it won last season, while Leeds remained without points.

Leeds, last season's first-division champions, embarrassed the Liverpool team for many times of the match and was a strong match for the title holders.
