Start the clip to hear the Swedish Transport Agency explain more why a medical certificate of approved vision is not always enough to get the driver's license back.

In the spring of 2018, the Swedish Transport Agency began work on reviewing to find out how Sweden interprets the EU driving license directive compared with other European countries.

The conclusions of the reviews were presented in June, where it appears that the Swedish Transport Agency in some cases interprets the rules too strictly and in other cases does not meet the requirements.

The Swedish Transport Agency has now begun work on reviewing what changes should be made based on the conclusions, including which measurement methods can be used to assess whether the vision is good enough.

But when you can count on seeing changes in the regulations, the Swedish Transport Agency can not answer.

It is not possible to take a driving test

From the diabetics' point of view, they want to see a more practical test, for example a driving test, instead of the synthesis tests that currently assess people's suitability to drive a car.

But it is easier said than done, says Witold Pisarek.

- Swedish law says that you must have a driver's license or driver's license to be able to drive a car, he says.

Another alternative would have been a test in a simulator, something that had previously been offered and which the individual had to pay for himself for almost SEK 19,000.

The possibility was later withdrawn as it was considered that it was not sufficiently validated.

New parliamentary resolution

In June, a new decision was made by the Riksdag that the possibility of a simulator test for visual field defects should be reintroduced and that a new system for driving tests on the road be investigated, but when in time this may become relevant is unclear.
