It is a war against the saboteurs of the old regime that the Sudanese authorities claim to be waging.

It has just declared a state of economic emergency and strengthened the powers of the judiciary to fight against speculators and gold smugglers.

The Sudanese economy is facing an endless fall in the national currency, which leads to imported inflation.

The war on the saboteurs of the economy is declared and to win it the government has strengthened its legal arsenal.

Heba Ali Mohamed, Minister of Economy and Finance held a spectacular press conference on Thursday, accompanied by the Minister of Justice and the country's main security officials.

She announced the creation of special courts and the strengthening of measures against speculators and smugglers.

Thus gold smugglers now risk ten years in prison, against a month previously.

According to the authorities, smuggling and speculation in gold are causing the country to lose precious currencies that would allow it to stabilize its currency.

The price of the Sudanese pound has not stopped collapsing for months causing a general rise in prices.

In August inflation reached 146% year on year.

For the government, these speculators are above all saboteurs who for some act to destabilize the regime resulting from the revolution of 2019. Sudan is still on the American list of countries supporting terrorism, which prevents it from having access to some financing from the IMF and the World Bank as well as debt relief.
