11 September 2020The French authorities have banned the demonstration of the "yellow vests" scheduled for tomorrow in Toulouse due to the coronavirus epidemic.

The prefect of the Department of Haute Garonne recalled how the region was declared since August 27 "at a high level of vulnerability", underlining "the significant increase in infection rates in recent days".



France recorded nearly 10,000 new coronavirus infections in a single day, the highest number since the pandemic began.

For this reason, the country's Defense Council met on Friday to discuss new measures to stem the spread of the virus.



As the numbers of Covid-19 cases rise in France, with 9,843 confirmed on September 10, experts say the time has come for some tough choices to mitigate the risk of a second wave.

Jean-François Delfraissy, head of the French government's scientific advisory group on coronavirus, said Wednesday that the government would be "forced to make a number of tough decisions over the next eight to ten days at the most."



Following Friday afternoon's Defense Council meeting, Prime Minister Jean Castex is expected to announce the next steps in a televised address from his office, where he self-isolated after spending last Saturday with the Tour de France director, who in later tested positive for coronavirus.
