The Dubai Health Authority has introduced an innovative technique for examining the genes of fetuses during pregnancy, and at birth, which is the most recent in the world with the aim of early detection of any genetic defect or any genetic disease, according to the Director of the Project Management Office at the authority, Dr. Muhammad Al-Reda, who explained that the technology is currently used In Dubai and Latifa Hospitals for Women and Children, to assess the extent of benefit from this technology before it is popularized.

Al-Redha told Emirates Today that the authority began using NIPT technology last week, with the aim of discovering any genetic or metabolic defects during the first month of pregnancy, as well as helping to prevent genetic diseases, and that doctors were able to set up early treatment programs.

He stated that the device used in the examination is characterized by its high-tech, accurate diagnosis and rapid results within five days, instead of a month, according to the techniques currently used.

He stressed the authority's keenness to accelerate the pace of work to provide a strong infrastructure and technology, and a set of systems and networks that take into account the requirements of the future and its endless trends in using these smart technologies, to serve people and maintain the health and safety of society.

He added that the development of the health sector system in Dubai is based on artificial intelligence, whose uses in medical facilities expand to include (examinations, diagnostics, and treatment), major and delicate surgeries, and artificial intelligence technology extends to include all policies supporting decision-making, administrative processes and open data.

Al-Reda stressed that the authority is moving at a rapid pace in using the best technologies and smart solutions, to provide high-quality medical care, high-level services to patients, and to empower medical personnel with future tools and technologies that help them in professional development, update practices, and innovate new medical methods in diagnosis and treatment.

He explained that the authority has provided several technologies during the Dubai Future Accelerators sessions, including 3D printing technology, to serve many areas and specialties, including prosthetics, surgical planning, dental services, medical education, and medical devices.

Al-Reda added that the authority used the first device of its kind, the "mobile telemedicine clinic", which provided medical advice through a visual call with the help of diagnostic tools, such as blood pressure monitors, thermometers, oxygen measurement, ECG, corneal examination, and skin examination. And sugar testing, audiometry, and other self-diagnostic tools, four government agencies have benefited from the service, (Roads Authority, Dubai Electricity, Municipality, and Land and Property Department).

He pointed out to the establishment of a center for the exchange of patient x-ray data between government and private hospitals, in accordance with the privacy rules for each patient, and at the patient's own request, and this contributed to saving effort, time and money for the patient, as this technology allows the patient and his doctor to use previous radiographs that he conducted at any time. And anywhere, with a speed not exceeding eight seconds, via a computer or phone, in addition to many modern technologies in order to provide high-level services.
