Dubai Electricity and Water Authority presented a series of workshops and online awareness lectures to raise the awareness of students participating in the virtual enrichment summer camp organized by the Ministry of Education in Dubai, about the rational use of resources, and urged them to follow a conscious and responsible lifestyle in the consumption of electricity and water, in addition to Enhance their knowledge base on the latest technology.

The authority organized the program in both Arabic and English over a period of four weeks, with the participation of about 1,300 students from public and private schools. The awareness and rationalization team at the authority shed light on rationalization practices and the reduction of waste and extravagance, and organized motivational competitions to celebrate the best practical practices applied in the field of rationalizing electricity and water consumption.

The innovation team at the authority held a number of introductory workshops on international standards, intellectual property, knowledge management, digital information culture, automatic programming (Arduino), and 3D printing.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, affirmed the authority's keenness to invest the vacations season in raising students' and youth awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and the sustainability of natural resources, saying: “We attach great importance to the new youth because they are future leaders and the cornerstone of the comprehensive sustainable development process. And we are committed to spreading environmental awareness among them according to purposeful educational methods that help them focus on rationalizing electricity and water consumption, as they are the next generation of experts and leaders who will implement ambitious national strategies and plans.

He added, “In line with the Dubai strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 16% by 2021, and the energy and water demand management strategy to reduce consumption by 30% by 2030, we organize throughout the year an integrated set of initiatives, programs and awareness activities to urge community members to Adopting the rationalization of consumption to become a daily behavior and a societal culture for everyone.

Al Tayer added, "The authority is cooperating with various governmental and private agencies to consolidate the concept of social responsibility, and prepare a generation armed with science and knowledge familiar with the latest technologies, in order to achieve its vision of being a global leader in sustainable and innovative."

He pointed out that the authority's cooperation with the Ministry of Education represents an ideal model for the solidarity of the efforts of national institutions that have a sustainable development vision that seeks to ensure the right of future generations to enjoy a clean, healthy and safe environment.
