"The US welcomes the announcement that the inter-Afghan talks will begin on September 12," a statement posted on the US State Department's website said.
It is noted that the start of negotiations represents a historic opportunity for Afghanistan to end wars.
“I urge negotiators to demonstrate pragmatism, restraint and flexibility,” Pompeo said.
Earlier it became known that inter-Afghan peace talks would begin in Doha on September 12.
