Faced with the resurgence of the coronavirus in Europe, our neighbors have opted for different measures.

For his part, to prevent France from falling into the Spanish situation, Emmanuel Macron promised new measures as of this Friday to combat the progression of the Covid-19.

Increases in France and almost everywhere in Europe, an explosion of cases in Spain ... the coronavirus is far from being defeated.

Six months after the World Health Organization (WHO) qualified the Covid-19 epidemic as a "pandemic", the results are dizzy: 28 million infections have been identified around the world leading to more than 900,000 deaths, including more than 183,000 in Europe.

Faced with this situation which is becoming "worrying" in certain French regions, especially in New Aquitaine, Emmanuel Macron promised new measures on Friday to limit the resurgence of the virus.

A decision which follows the appeal of the scientific council of Jean-François Delfraissy, which considers in particular that France could find itself in the Spanish situation.

"France is now at a level which is worrying, which is not that of Spain but which is not far away, with a lag perhaps of a fortnight and which is much more severe than that of Italy. "

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Thursday, September 10

Very strict measures in Spain, but an explosion of cases

A real alarm signal, since Spain is the European country most affected by what ends up looking like a second wave with more than 500,000 cases and an incidence rate of the virus twice as high as that of the Hexagon.

However, the country was the first in the Old Continent to make the mask compulsory everywhere in May.

Meetings of more than ten people are prohibited in some regions and there are many rules in restaurants.

"We must disinfect the table after each customer, wear the mask, check the safety distances ...", echoes at the microphone of Europe 1 Soraya, waitress in a Barcelona establishment.

The discos, once reopened during the summer, are now closed, while the consumption of alcohol has been banned in the street to prevent young people from meeting there for a drink.

Despite everything, the number of cases has skyrocketed in recent days.

"I think the situation is not catastrophic because very strict measures are taken", analysis at the microphone of Europe 1 Pierre Malcher, infectious disease specialist in a Barcelona hospital.

If the number of deaths is 25 times lower in Spain than in the first wave, he insists on the importance of strict compliance with barrier gestures, "not to find yourself in a situation similar to last March".

Gatherings of more than six people banned in England and Portugal

But Spain is not the only country to have once again tightened the screw on freedoms for the common good.

On the other side of the Channel, where the health situation is comparable to ours, gatherings of more than six people will be banned from Monday.

Some cities have been reconfigured, while travelers from some countries must submit to a fortnight.

This is particularly the case for travelers arriving from mainland Portugal, where a new record of cases was broken this week.

Moreover, Lisbon has also taken measures, including the ban on meeting more than ten people from Tuesday.

The Belgian "social bubble"

North of the borders of France, Belgium is, as in France, facing an increase in hospitalizations.

The authorities have therefore decided to set up "the social bubble".

Concretely, each Belgian household has the right to rub shoulders with a maximum of five people without a mask or social distancing.

But Brussels also monitors its borders: each traveler coming from abroad must fill out a form and, if he comes from a red zone, as is the case for 22 French departments, for example, the fortnight is compulsory.

Elsewhere in Europe, the rise in contamination is also continuing.

In the Czech Republic, the compulsory wearing of masks now extends to enclosed public spaces, such as schools, shops and restaurants.

Only Germany seems to be an exception with a slight drop in the number of cases in the past two weeks.

However, the restrictions are limited: no city, for example, imposes the wearing of a compulsory mask.

As to whether the measures taken by our neighbors will be applied in France, we must wait until the end of the Defense Council scheduled for Friday to know the announcements which should give "visibility over the coming weeks".
