According to the Associated Press, the Irish Data Protection Commission has begun examining how Facebook redirects user data from the European Union to the United States.

As a result of the investigation, the company, which has data centers around the world, may be obliged to carry out a costly "reconstruction" of its operations to ensure that user data does not enter the United States, the agency said in a statement.

In February, the Magistrates' Court in Moscow fined Facebook 4 million rubles for refusing to transfer servers with data from Russian users to Russia.
