Iran announced today that its armed land, sea and air forces will start military maneuvers in the country's southern waters for a period of three days on Thursday, warning that it will meet any "aggression" with a response that will exceed the borders of the region.

The Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Army for Coordination Affairs, Admiral Habibullah Sayyari, said that the area of the exercises is two million square kilometers, and includes the waters east of the Strait of Hormuz, the coasts of Makran, the Sea of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean.

The Iranian "Fars" agency quoted Sayyari as saying that the aim of the maneuvers was to conduct training in the areas of intelligence and military tactics, leading to a review of military capabilities with the aim of confronting any possible threats or aggression.

He emphasized that Tehran's response would be wide in the geographical sense in the event that what he called the "enemy" committed any strategic mistakes, and that the response would not be limited to the Middle East region, he said.

Last Sunday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the UAE and Israel had reached an agreement to form an alliance against Iran to protect American lands and the Middle East through the normalization agreement known as the "Abraham Agreement."

He added that Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv view Tehran as a great danger.
