Protection hunting of wolves in Skåne can be granted after several attacks on domestic animals from the same predator individual.

- There we have three attacks for a limited period of time.

Based on these conditions, there is no obstacle that is the basis for not granting protection hunting now, says David Börjesson, wildlife management officer at the County Administrative Board in Skåne.

DNA samples have been taken

But this can be prevented if the wolf turns out to be genetically valuable.

The Swedish wolf population has known problems with inbreeding.

- That is why such wolves that come from the east, Finland and Russia, are valuable in strengthening the tribe.

We are waiting for answers to DNA samples that we have taken, says David Börjesson.

"Not easy to hunt wolves"

This means that decisions about protection hunting can take a week and regardless, it is not so easy to hunt the wolf.

- No, it's not.

In Jönköping and Västra Götaland, there have been decisions on protection hunting for a widespread period, and the protection hunting decision was also extended during the summer, but no wolves have been shot anyway.

So all in all, does the wolf have a good chance of surviving if it just moves on?

- Yes, especially if it has known to stop attacking sheep.

But the most important thing right now is increased supervision by sheep owners and that they, among other things, review their fences.
