Senegal: Macky Sall announces CFAF 10 billion in aid after the floods
President Macky Sall has announced a plan of 10 billion CFA francs, 3 of which will be paid directly to the populations affected by the floods that have hit the country.

Senegalese President Macky Sall on Tuesday announced a budget of 10 billion CFA francs (more than 15 million euros) to deal with the floods that hit the country last weekend.
Populations and opposition officials have criticized the management of this recurring phenomenon in every rainy season.

After a crisis meeting on Tuesday with the ministers concerned, Macky Sall promised
emergency measures
, the continuation of the ten-year plan to fight against the floods, and called on his compatriots to "
change their behavior
".
"
We are in the case of climate change which is a global phenomenon
", explained initially the Senegalese president.
Floods that hit the country last weekend left at least six people dead, according to the Interior Ministry, and extensive damage.

Very early in 2012, I launched the ten-year flood control program and it is important that this program be continued (...) So to support these efforts, I decided to set up a budget of 10 billion CFA francs, of which 3 billion will be used directly to support
the affected populations
and another 7 billion will be used to support the services of firefighters, the Onas (National Sanitation Office of Senegal) and the purchase additional equipment,
”continued the president.
Macky Sall announced that "
the government will soon present the situation of the ten-year flood control plan and above all a new scheme so that additional funding is found in order to complete this ten-year program
".
