09 September 2020 "We have worked hard in view of the reopening of schools, of the return to class of our children. This year it will take place in a new and not easy context, which will challenge the whole Italian system".

The Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, said this during the press conference on the school at Palazzo Chigi.

The main points

The principals will define admissions at staggered times.

11 million free masks will be available, mandatory when entering and traveling, not when sitting at the counter.

School buses will be able to fill up to 80% of the seats.

In case of Covid infections, there are guidelines to follow and quarantine of the entire class will be possible.

Families will have to take students' temperatures at home.

These are the main points of the reopening of schools, listed by the Prime Minister.

There will be infections

"There will be some changes, some new rules will be added compared to the usual ones", but "the return to class, in complete safety, has been, is and will be the priority objective of this government", assured Conte.

"Over 10 million will start up again. We must reconcile safety and efficiency. This will involve a further effort on the part of everyone, without exception, the Government first of all", said Conte during the press conference.

"We will have to face some discomfort, we take into account that there will also be infections at school, but we have prepared a handbook to address these difficulties".

And, "in the worst case, the quarantine will be triggered for the whole class", added Conte.

"The government will provide schools with 11 million masks a day. It will provide them to staff, female students and students in all institutions", makes clear the premier, who underlines: "We have prepared all the measures considered with the maximum available skills. useful, adequate, proportionate to guarantee face-to-face teaching. Then it is clear that we cannot carry out tests on the whole school population, we are talking about over 10 million people ".

Azzolina: recovery has already begun

"The school has already

restarted

" with lessons started on 7 September in various cities.

On September 14th and 24th, thousands of students will return to school.

"A very challenging year awaits us with difficulties to overcome. It was right to close the schools in May. It is right to start again now. Today we are better prepared".

Thus the Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina during the press conference at Palazzo Chigi, with the participation of the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza and the extraordinary Commissioner for the emergency Domenico Arcuri.

Hope: we will support teachers, principals and staff

"When there is a positive case at school, and it is quite evident that there will be and already are in these hours, we will never leave our teachers, our principals and our school staff alone . It will be the competent health care company, in particular the ASL prevention department, to make assessments of the case and contact tracing, to investigate and arrange the measures with an intelligent use of tampons. And where quarantine should also be needed " , affirmed the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza, in his speech at the press conference.
