Bengt Svensson is a professor of social work at Malmö University.
According to him, there may be several explanations for Perstorp standing out as the municipality in Skåne that has the most reports of drug crimes in terms of population.
- It reflects that there is a drug use in the municipality, but first and foremost it shows that the police have been active, says Bengt Svensson.
High youth unemployment
The extent of drug abuse in a municipality is largely governed by what the social conditions look like, the professor says.
- If you have a high youth unemployment, you have more people who use drugs and Perstorp is quite high there, says Bengt Svensson.
Important to access the gangs
With regard to the measures that the police can take, he believes that efforts against open drug sales can yield results in the form of more prosecutions, but that it does not address the underlying problem.
- It is the serious crime and gang crime that is the most important.
