  • This year, the Antigone of associations, which brings together around 100,000 people in Montpellier, will not be able to stand, due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

  • The town hall has imagined a platform where associations will hold virtual stands.

  • They will be able to present their activities, and interact directly with Internet users.

Unsurprisingly, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the highly prized Antigone of associations, which was to celebrate its 40th edition, will not take place this year in Montpellier (Hérault): more than 100,000 people flocking to the stands of chess, swimming or theater clubs in the city, that was not an option.

“A very difficult decision, but responsible”, confides the mayor, Michaël Delafosse (PS).

But the town has imagined an online edition.

Thus, Saturday and Sunday, Montpellier residents will be able to virtually meet the associations on a dedicated site, accessible from montpellier.fr from a computer, smartphone or tablet.

Each association will hold a virtual fair there, allowing it to promote its activity, display its volunteering needs and even exchange directly with interested people, by messaging or through a live Facebook.

Search engine

Virtual visitors will be able to find associations via a search engine by name, theme, and even by neighborhood.

"The associations immediately seized the device", continues the mayor.

Nearly 900 have already created their space.

“Every year, the Antigone of associations, it is very important for us.

So with the cancellation, and those of other stands on campus, recruitment is more complicated, says Alexandre, from Taust, the university's amateur theater association.

So, it's good that the town hall proposed this virtual format.

It's better than nothing !

This tool, which will be launched on Saturday at 10 am, is intended to be maintained, and will soon take the form of an online “directory of associations”.
