Gargash: The peace treaty with Israel will not be at the expense of the Palestinian cause

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar bin Muhammad Gargash affirmed that the UAE’s sovereign and strategic decision to announce a peace treaty with Israel includes an Israeli agreement to stop annexing Palestinian lands, which constitutes an important achievement and step towards peace, and a fulfillment of a demand that the member states and the international community have agreed upon. In addition to being one of the goals contained in the Arab Peace Initiative to reach a just and sustainable solution to this issue, and he stressed that this treaty will not be at the expense of the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

In a speech to the work of the 154th (remote) session of the Arab League Council, which was held at the level of foreign ministers yesterday, Gargash stressed that there is a real opportunity to revive peace efforts and initiatives on the issue of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and said that the solution to the issue is in the hands of the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

Gargash said that the meeting of the Council comes in light of the increasing volume of challenges and crises facing our Arab region, which requires us to work collectively and increase cooperation and coordination and deal with these challenges with rationality, wisdom and balance, and give priority to political solutions over escalation and confrontation.

He added that the Palestinian issue is the central and pivotal issue for the Arab nation, and the UAE affirms its firm position in support of the establishment of a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy decisions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

In his speech, Gargash touched on foreign interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries, the issue of the three occupied Emirati islands, and developments in the crisis in Yemen, Syria and Libya.
