For the first time, the latest S-300V4 long-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) entered the Russian Armed Forces compound in the Jewish Autonomous Region.

This was reported by the press service of the Eastern Military District. 

“The receipt of samples of the latest anti-aircraft missile system was preceded by the completion of the formation of an anti-aircraft missile unit.

After these events, the personnel were sent to a training center in the city of Orenburg, where they successfully completed training and received the necessary technical knowledge to operate the latest military equipment, "the website of the Russian Defense Ministry says.

As part of the verification of weapon systems and the base chassis at the Kapustin Yar training ground, the S-300V4 crews made missile launches at small-sized fast-flying objects.

The roles of air targets were played by the Saman-type targets fired from the Osa air defense system.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, the Russian Defense Ministry plans to deploy new air defense units and formations to cover the Arctic and Far Eastern strategic directions, equipping them with S-300V4.

Currently, the S-300V4 is on a combat watch in the Krasnodar Territory, Moscow, Samara and Kaliningrad regions.

The air defense missile system is also operated by Russian military personnel at the naval logistics center in Tartus, Syria.

As the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov told reporters earlier, after the deployment of the S-300V4, the intensity of flights of the US-led coalition in the north-eastern part of the Arab republic significantly decreased.

"Guaranteed interception"

The S-300V4 is in service with the RF Ground Forces.

Often, these systems are supplied to army units along with the Buk-M3 medium-range air defense system and the Tor-M2 short-range air defense systems, which, as experts say, form an echeloned air defense system in the theater of operations (TMD).

The S-300V4 includes launchers with "light" and "heavy" anti-aircraft missiles, launchers and loaders and a 9S32M1 multichannel missile guidance station (MSNR).

In an interview with RT, military expert Yuri Lyamin noted that the S-300V4 is the latest modification of the S-300V family (B - "military").

The vehicles of this line of long-range air defense systems are made on a tracked chassis, which makes it possible to increase mobility in off-road conditions.

“It is important not to confuse the S-300V with the well-known S-300 family.

These are two completely different lines.

The S-300V complexes, including the S-300V4, were installed on a track to cover large army formations in the absence of roads.

They also have enhanced capabilities to defeat enemy ballistic missiles, which is necessary in a theater of operations to protect headquarters, ”Lyamin said.

According to the analyst, the S-300V4 arsenal includes a special installation designed to launch missiles at ballistic targets.

Moreover, the main "specialization" of the S-300 line is the destruction of aerodynamic objects - aircraft, helicopters, UAVs and cruise missiles.

According to the RF Ministry of Defense, the S-300V4 is a modern, highly mobile air defense system "with a great anti-missile potential."

The main task of the complex is to defend "objects of military-state significance and groupings of troops from attacks by ballistic and aerodynamic means of air attack."

The maximum target interception range is 400 km.

According to the military, the S-300V4 is capable of effectively fighting ballistic missiles with a launch range of up to 2,500 km.

The missile of the complex, which intercepts such targets, flies five times faster than the speed of sound.

In an article for the Aerospace Sphere magazine, retired lieutenant general, doctor of technical sciences, USSR State Prize laureate Alexander Luzan explained that the S-300V air defense system family was created for the effective non-nuclear destruction of hypersonic small-sized ballistic missile warheads.

As Luzan said, the S-300V4 is capable of intercepting ballistic objects flying at a speed of more than 12 Mach numbers.

Also, this air defense system can deal with all types of aerodynamic targets at a distance of up to 380-400 km, including those made using stealth technology.

Another advantage of the complex, the company calls the increased range of destruction of targets.

Close to Triumph

Experts believe that Almaz-Antey's engineers managed to create a modern, efficient long-range air defense system.

The S-300V4 is optimally suited for combat duty in hard-to-reach areas due to its high cross-country ability and autonomy.

At the same time, in terms of its combat qualities, it is close to the S-400 Triumph air defense system, analysts are sure.

According to the analyst, the deployment of the S-300V4 makes it possible to cover vast areas and remote regions of Russia without the widespread use of more expensive fighter aircraft.

In addition, such an air defense system is relevant for the armed forces of all major states of the world, Denisentsev argues.

As follows from media reports, earlier representatives of the S-300V line were acquired by the military of Venezuela and Egypt.

Now Moscow is promoting on the international market an export version of the S-300B4 called Antey-4000.

This product was first presented at the international military-technical forum "Army-2020" held at the end of August.

Denisentsev believes that Antey-4000 will not become a competitor to the S-400 in the foreign market, since both complexes have the same manufacturer - Almaz-Antey, as well as the seller - Rosoboronexport.

As Yuri Lyamin noted in turn, the S-300V4 is not as well known to the foreign public as the Triumph.

At the same time, the expert does not exclude that the sample demonstrated at the Army-2020 can find its foreign buyer.

“I think that, of course, there are those who want to purchase the S-300V4.

Such an air defense complex will be of interest to countries that have large army groups, ”Lyamin stressed.
