He was finally "found dead asphyxiated", specified the commander.

This is the fifth firefighter who died this summer in Portugal.

At the beginning of August, the pilot of a water bomber plane had perished in the crash his aircraft in Spain while fighting a fire on the northern border of Portugal.

The country is in the grip of forest fires which have mobilized a total of more than a thousand firefighters, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

Due to "adverse weather conditions", marked in particular by temperatures reaching 38 ° C, civil protection was placed on alert until Tuesday evening.
