A young woman who was surfing in San Sebastian, in the Basque Country (Spain), was arrested and taken into custody on Monday.

Recently tested positive for the coronavirus, the sportswoman obviously did not respect the quarantine imposed by the health authorities.

It was the young woman's colleagues, a rescuer on another beach in the town, who alerted the authorities.

The surfer, then on leave, was taking the waves and swimming with other people when she should have remained confined to her home, reports the Spanish media

Police custody for "serious disobedience"

Police officers, two of them in protective suits, came to look for the young woman on the beach.

The latter initially refused to get out of the water despite orders from the police.

She finally returned to the beach but refused to evade the police officers, in an attitude of "defiance" according to the Spanish media.

The surfer was eventually handcuffed, taken into custody for "serious disobedience" and isolated due to her state of health.

She was released a little later.

For having behaved "causing a very serious risk or damage to public health", she could be tried and sentenced to a heavy fine.
