President of Belarus: possible early presidential elections after constitutional reform

Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, September 8 (Reporter Wu Gang) Belarusian President Lukashenko said in an interview with Russian media on the 8th that Belarus may hold presidential elections in advance after the constitutional reform.

Lukashenko said in a joint interview with Russian media including Today’s Russian News Agency in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, that the possibility of Belarusian presidential elections being held in advance after the constitutional reform is not ruled out.

He said that there are two reasons for the current situation in Belarus. One is external support. The opponents are behind the Americans. They manipulate the situation through their bases in Poland and the Czech Republic. The other is domestic factors. "Bourgeois" class, they want to seek power.

Lukashenko said he would not have dialogue with opponents.

The idea put forward by the opponents is a disaster for Belarus and the people of Belarus. Their purpose is to sever all ties between Belarus and Russia.

Lukashenko pointed out that Belarus is ready to integrate with Russia, and all mechanisms under the framework of the Russian-Belarusian alliance should be fully functional before that.

On August 9 this year, Belarus held a presidential election, and Lukashenko was re-elected with 80.1% of the vote.

There were subsequent large-scale protests in Minsk and other cities, questioning the election results.

Some Western countries do not recognize the results of the elections, demand that the White side re-elect and plan to impose sanctions on some officials.

Russia and Belarus signed a treaty for the establishment of alliance states in December 1999.

The treaty stipulates that the two countries shall establish a confederate state while maintaining their respective national sovereignty, independence and national system.
