The Egyptian Minister of Education, Tarek Shawky, announced yesterday the ministry’s plan for the new academic year, and pointed out that it generally depends on dividing students ’attendance at schools.

He said in a press conference that school principals will have broad powers to determine students' attendance days, according to the spaces available in each school, and in a way that guarantees social distancing.

Classes are scheduled to begin on October 17 in public schools and universities, for 23 million students.

Shawky indicated that the number of days for pupils in the younger educational stages to attend will be more than for older students.

This comes at a time when the number of new Corona virus cases exceeded the 100,000 mark in Egypt, the largest Arab country demographically, with a population of 100 million.

The number of HIV infections, the day before yesterday, reached 100 thousand and 41, including 5541 deaths in Egypt, which announced the first infection with "Corona" on February 14, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the Ministry's data, Egypt recorded 79 thousand and eight recoveries from the virus.

In March, the authorities imposed partial closures to limit the spread of the virus, such as closing places of worship, cafes, restaurants, airports, schools and universities, and imposed a night curfew in the country.

The study begins on October 17th.
