More than 6,500 new cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in France over the past 24 hours, according to data from the Directorate General of Health (DGS), which warns Tuesday on "a clear deterioration of the situation".

The precise number of new cases amounts to 6,544, specifies the DGS in a press release.

This figure is up from Monday (4,203 new cases counted), but down from the previous three days (between 7,000 and 9,000 cases daily).

Ninety-one new outbreaks of contamination have been detected over the past 24 hours, up from the previous day (58 new outbreaks).

The positivity rate (proportion of positive cases, among all people tested over 7 days), 5.2%, continues to grow gradually.

Thirty-nine people died in hospitals, where the death toll reached 20,289, completes the site of Public Health France (SpF), the health agency.

In nursing homes and other social and medico-social establishments, the toll stands at 10,475 dead, according to the latest toll released on Tuesday by the DGS.

In total, 30,764 people have died since the start of the epidemic in France.

The number of patients entering intensive care has increased, with 86 people hospitalized in the last 24 hours, 83 the day before, up from around 50 a day last week.

More than 71 departments are classified in a situation of moderate or high vulnerability, according to SpF.

"In mainland France, all of the epidemic monitoring indicators show a clear deterioration in the situation with a growing health impact", underlines the DGS, which recalls the need to respect barrier gestures.
