The Chevening Scholarship has opened the door to applying for admission applications for the next academic year from the beginning of September to the third of November, and the process of selecting applicants for Chevening takes at least eight months.

The process extends from the application deadline until the time when applicants are selected for the grant later, subject to the conditions for completing English language exams and obtaining university admission from universities and courses listed in the scholarship, which can be searched through the official scholarship website.

In this report, we present the most important points and links to help you accept the scholarship.

The most important documents and conditions

  • Being a citizen of Chevening-eligible countries can be searched in your country by searching for it on the official website.

  • Commit to returning to your home country and not staying in the UK for more than two years after the scholarship ends.

  • Complete all components of an undergraduate / bachelor's degree that would enable you to gain entry into a postgraduate program at a UK university listed with the scholarship by the time you submit your application.

Subsequently, you have to apply to three UK university courses, along with an unconditional offer from one of the three options, by 15 July 2021.

Applicants are required to work a minimum of 2,800 working hours, which are calculated from your previous work experience automatically through the website by calculating the number of working hours in the period in weeks.

For this calculation, the work week includes 35-60 hours, and the work year consists of 40 to 50 weeks.

You must submit all required documents related to the educational process and academic or professional References.

This includes a bachelor’s or bachelor’s degree backed by a certificate of two years experience in part-time, full-time, or even voluntary work in a non-profit organization, and you can apply directly through the application page from the official website.

References

References are an integral part of Chevening's selection process.

You must provide the names of two references when submitting your application.

If your application is accepted, you will be required to upload two letters from a university professor or your principal to the online application system by 12:00 GMT (midday) on February 22, 2021.

How do you choose the reference?

They should be people who can comment on your suitability for the grant, and the references should be known to you, either in an academic or professional capacity, but without any kinship or friendship to you.

Common mistakes

Some of the common mistakes that applicants make according to the scholarship location are:

  • Failure to meet the minimum number of working hours before submitting the application.

  • Failure to enter the correct total number of work weeks for each year of work.

  • Going into an unrealistic number of work hours or weeks (say 2000 hours instead of 20 hours per week).

  • Enter the same work experience more than once.

Applicants must complete all parts of the application form correctly to be considered eligible.

Only eligible applications will be processed.

The following are the sections of the application form where applicants made the most common mistakes.

Preparing for the interview

The interview committee includes representatives from the British embassy or the High Commission, who use the global Chevening criteria to assess answers, and the committee will ask questions that will enable you to explain your personal and professional aspirations, and how Chevening can overcome future obstacles and enable you to achieve your goals.

Course options will also be discussed and you will be asked to submit a summary of your findings about the scholarship, and all applicants will be informed of the outcome after completing interviews with all applicants in various countries of the world, until mid-June 2021.

English

The Chevening Scholarship requires a 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or its equivalent in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Free tests can be accessed from the training site for tests. For IELTS, which is provided by the British Council free of charge throughout the year via this link.

Applicants do not need to apply for university admission from the universities of their choice at the time of submitting their applications, and they are not required to obtain an IELTS certificate at that stage, and all you have to do is submit the scholarship application online.
