"The channel for smuggling tobacco products from the United Arab Emirates to Russia has been suppressed," RIA Novosti reports.
As noted, tobacco products worth 216 million rubles have been withdrawn from illegal circulation.
According to the intelligence agency, the cigarettes were transported by ship in 20-ton containers under the cover of tomato paste.
The organizer of the smuggling was detained, a criminal case was opened.
In July, customs officials at Sheremetyevo Airport found more than 12 kg of marijuana in parcels from the United States.
