China News Service, September 7 (Reporter Chen Jing) It is an indisputable fact that the incidence of myopia among young people is increasing.

Can myopia be treated through vision training?

Xu Yan, an expert from Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Control Center, made it clear in an interview with a reporter from Chinanews.com on the 7th that vision training cannot treat true myopia, and all propaganda that "visual training can treat myopia" is deceptive.

The expert told reporters that vision training refers to the use of optics or psychophysics to train binocular adjustment function, collective function, eye movement function, and the coordination of the two, so as to improve the application ability of the binocular visual system, improve and heal vision Fatigue, eye movement disorder, dyslexia and other binocular vision diseases.

Xu Yan said that the main targets of vision training are people with amblyopia, strabismus, and visual dysfunction, and pointed out: "Visual training is mainly to train the coordination of the brain and the eyes. It is training the visual function, not the treatment of myopia. The contrary is incorrect. The training may also deepen the child’s myopia."

As a clinician, Xu Yan pointed out that in recent years, the incidence of asthenopia has been increasing year by year. The specific symptoms include sore eyes, tearing, orbital pain, inability to read and write for a long time, headache and discomfort.

She said: “Asthenopia has many causes. Asthenopia caused by abnormal adjustment function can be improved by visual training.”

She said that the focusing process of the eyes is the result of ciliary muscle stretching exercise, similar to fitness exercises, effective adjustment training can strengthen the adjustment range of the eyes, adjust the sensitivity, improve the focus problem, make the eyes less fatigued, and obtain a comfortable visual state.

In tutoring homework, parents often complain that their children are very slow in reading and writing, and mistakes, omissions, and wrong copying of blackboards often occur.

Xu Yan said frankly that these seemingly "sloppy" problems are not only due to the child's unserious attitude towards learning, but also the child's eye movement or the uncoordinated eye and hand movement.

According to reports, eye movement functions mainly include gaze, glance, and follow.

Xu Yan said that these three are inter-connected, and they often have abnormalities at the same time, which affects reading ability, manifested by slow reading speed, serialization of words, and difficulty in copying.

During the interview, Xu Yan told reporters of a clinical case encountered.

The 7-year-old girl just started school and suddenly said that she couldn't see clearly when she read, and she couldn't see clearly when she read the blackboard.

In the local hospital, he received multiple examinations such as fundus retina and head CT, but no cause was found.

In his outpatient clinic, the result of visual function examination revealed that the child's eyes had abnormal accommodation.

In response to the condition, the doctors comforted the parents and children on the one hand, and designed a visual training program for her on the other.

After a month of treatment, the child's vision slowly returned to normal, and his near and far vision reached 1.0.

There are some misunderstandings among parents about whether to wear glasses for myopia.

Xu Yan told reporters that a considerable part of the younger children who go to the doctor due to their decreased vision and blurred vision are pseudomyopia.

This is caused by excessive close-range games or reading and writing, resulting in excessive eye use, eye ciliary muscle spasm, and accommodative myopia.

She said that this kind of myopia, as long as the use of drugs to relax the tension of the ciliary muscles can restore normal vision.

Regarding true myopia, Xu Yan pointed out that not wearing glasses will only keep the eyes in a state of fatigue, not only will not reduce the degree, but also cause the myopia to grow too fast.

After wearing glasses, the visual quality is improved, and eye fatigue is improved, which can delay the progress of myopia to a certain extent.

She bluntly said that the increase in myopia has nothing to do with wearing glasses.
