China News Service, September 7-According to Kyodo News, Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Toshihiro Nikai served 1,497 days on September 7, which was the same as the previous record for the longest term of the Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General.

In August 2016, Nikai became the secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party. At the age of 77 years and 5 months, he became the oldest secretary-general in Japanese history.

According to reports, in August 2019, the number of consecutive days that the second-tier served as the secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party surpassed that of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Maesaburo Maeo.

On September 8, 2020, the cumulative and consecutive number of days in the second tier will be ranked first.

On August 28, the current Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who had just set the record for the longest tenure in office, announced his resignation. Regarding this, the second stage regretfully said: "The fact that the whole party supports the prime minister like today is something to be proud of in the history of the (Liberal Democratic) Party. Although it was for health reasons (resignation), I still feel extremely deplored."

Born in the second stage of Wakayama Prefecture, he served as the secretary of the House of Representatives and the prefectural member. He was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 1983.

He studied under the former prime minister Tanaka and belonged to the Tanaka faction.

In the political reform of 1993, he left the Liberal Democratic Party with Ichiro Ozawa and others, and returned to the Liberal Democratic Party by taking advantage of the dissolution of the Conservative New Party in 2003.

On September 14, Japan will elect the president of the Liberal Democratic Party as Abe's successor.

In the party's high-level personnel adjustments that are expected to be carried out immediately, whether the second order will continue to stay has attracted much attention.
