Al-Nuaimi said that the UAE includes rich land and marine diversity, multiple and disparate ecosystems, preserving biological diversity, and endangered species among the first environmental issues that received attention in the country, especially since the UAE has a prestigious reputation in the field of biological diversity, and has for many years been ranked The first in the world in the standard of marine natural reserves in the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which is one of the most important global indicators, as the number of protected areas has reached 49, which constitute more than 15% of the country's area.

He pointed out that the Ministry has developed the National Biodiversity Strategy and the preparation of the UAE Smart Map for Natural Capital, in addition to identifying alien and invasive species, which may constitute pests dangerous to biological diversity, and their paths, and developing a plan to combat them and limit their impacts.

Al-Nuaimi stated that the Ministry is currently seeking to rehabilitate areas rich in biodiversity in the country to declare them protected areas, to complete the national project for the Red List of Endangered Species, as well as to complete the Emirates Smart Map for Natural Capital and update the map of important sites for birds.

During his review of the ministry's work plan for the next stage, he explained that the marine environment is one of the most important natural systems and the richest economically and environmentally, pointing out that the ministry has achieved many achievements within this file, the most important of which are the launch of the national plan for climate change, the national program for adaptation, and the preparation of the national framework for sustainability Fish wealth, regulating fishing activities and practices, improving fish stocks, rehabilitating environmentally sensitive areas, setting up a national framework for sustainable governance of the marine and coastal environment, developing a national plan to combat marine pollutants, and monitoring natural changes and phenomena in the marine environment using satellites and artificial intelligence techniques.

Regarding the ministry's efforts to limit the repercussions of climate change, Al-Nuaimi touched on the National Climate Change Plan (2017-2050), which is the first of its kind in the region, as well as the draft federal law on climate change and the national program for adapting to climate change, stressing that The Ministry will continue to work on developing climate and economic modeling capabilities at the national level using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence techniques, building a national database for climate data, managing greenhouse gas emissions, improving natural and industrial emissions banks, and establishing more public-private partnership initiatives in The areas of mitigation and adaptation.

He added that the country began monitoring ambient air quality in 2007, through a network of ground monitoring stations distributed at the level of the Emirates, and today includes 54 stations, as the Ministry will seek with its partners to develop a national strategy for air quality beyond 2021, and to launch a central national platform for the state of air quality. In the country, modernizing the air pollution protection system, and raising the air quality rate to 90% by 2021, and to 100% by 2040.
