06 September 2020 "One of the accusations they make is that we have not blocked autonomous landings. But we cannot block the boats by sinking them. They must not leave, so we must work with the countries of origin, such as Tunisia, where I have been twice in July and August ".

To speak the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese speaking at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio.

Lamorgese recalled that "in the last two months all the migrants have arrived with autonomous landings, the only arrival with an NGO ship occurred last week and involved 350 people".

The role of Tunisia

"Right now - explained Lamorgese - we are moving to help Tunisia, support and increase its ability to manage public administration and migratory flows. We spoke with the President of the Republic and with the prime minister in charge and we had all the reassurances, they blocked departures from Sfax, which was the main port used by traffickers; now they have found other ports, but we have made all the necessary interventions ".

Europe and relocations

And Italy is also asking for help from Europe.

"In the Pact for Migration that will be presented shortly - the Interior Minister reiterated - the principle of compulsory and non-optional relocation should absolutely be established. The Visegrad countries do not want and we have proposed that there be economic sanctions for those who do not participate in relocations ".
