SVT Nyheter Skåne has taken part in an internal email exchange, which Region Skåne wants to keep secret, and which has been going on between doctors and the management of Skåne's digital care system (SDV) for the past two years.

In one of the emails, one of the doctors writes: "As I have pointed out several times before, repeatedly: This is basically a very frivolous attempt at" damage control "(…) of a project that completely failed from the beginning.

That it is allowed to continue is not only frightening but also extremely immoral ".

The doctors are appealing

The working group in endoscopy in Malmö was asked this summer to quickly try to get a new documentation system as it turned out that the American journal system Millennium lacks a functioning system for endoscopy documentation.

Endoscopy is a type of examination that involves looking into, for example, the intestines or stomach with the help of a kind of tube, an endoscope, and at the same time is given the opportunity to perform various procedures.

Accurate endoscopic documentation contains everything from referral to the final copy statement, statistics and traceability.

But also pictures and videos from the examination, and are crucial for the doctor to be able to give the patient a good and safe care.

Under time pressure

Endoscopy employees have repeatedly appealed to management to connect their current well-functioning documentation system to Cerners, but have been denied and referred to a decision in principle that does not allow linking to external programs.

The chief physician in charge of the unit at the endoscopy clinic in Malmö questioned the decision almost two years ago, but was then told that her "divergent views" did not correspond to the region's strategies and agreements.

"A cry for help"

In another email from last summer, which is described as "a cry for help", one of the doctors again sounds the alarm to the management about the long cancer queues and the serious patient injuries that the waiting time has caused and risks continuing to cause.

The doctor writes: "To try in this situation, until 31 August, from point zero to create not only an underlying rough structure for an endoscopy documentation system but also a smooth from day 1 well-functioning interface is in my, and other clinically active doctors / nurses in the working group - a completely impossible task ”.

Continue what has been started

The newly appointed program manager Linn Kennedy shows understanding for the doctor's concerns and writes: “The best way I see it is to continue the work that has been planned this summer, to create a clear picture of the possibilities with SDV.

When the endoscopy part is finished, we get a common image and can then more easily evaluate if we have the required functionality ”.

SVT Nyheter Skåne has sought Region Skåne for a comment for almost a week.

Officials in the region have promised to return with a comment on Monday.
